When a factory manager from Kano, Nigeria, visited China during the Canton Fair, he had a clear objective: find a robust and efficient replacement for his company’s aging local granulator. His challenge was specific—processing post-consumer HDPE/LDPE film into high-quality pellets. This material is notoriously difficult to handle, and his existing machine was failing to produce the desired quality. This case study outlines how we provided a tailored solution that met his exact needs.

The Challenge: Overcoming Poor Pellet Quality from HDPE Film

Recycling post-consumer film presents unique difficulties compared to rigid plastics. The material often contains residual moisture, ink, and fine contaminants that can compromise the final product. A standard single-stage extruder often struggles with these issues, leading to:

  • Porous, low-density pellets due to trapped gases and moisture.
  • Frequent production stops for screen cleaning.
  • Reduced market value for the final granules.

The client required an HDPE film recycling machine that could specifically address these problems and deliver dense, uniform, high-quality pellets consistently.

The Solution: A Customized HDPE Film Double-Stage Pelletizing Line

After discussing the client’s raw materials and quality requirements, we recommended our HDPE Film Double-Stage Pelletizing Line. This configuration, featuring a SL-150 primary extruder and a SL-140 secondary extruder, is engineered specifically for materials like washed film.

The two-stage extruder design provides a critical advantage. The first-stage plastic melting extruder machine (SL-150) focuses on melting, plasticizing, and initial filtration. It is equipped with energy-efficient electromagnetic heating to reduce operational costs. The molten plastic then flows directly into the second-stage extruder (SL-140), which performs intensive degassing and a final filtration before the material passes through the screen changer. This process effectively removes volatiles and ensures a denser, higher-quality final pellet.

The line was completed with a stainless steel water cooling tank and a high-speed pellet cutting machine to produce clean, uniform granules ready for bagging.

Factory Visit and Customization for the Nigerian Market

Understanding the importance of trust and verification, we invited the manager to our factory. Here, he was able to inspect a completed HDPE Film Double-Stage Pelletizing Line firsthand and see the build quality, the 40Cr grade steel screws, and the robust hard-toothed gearboxes we use.

As a dedicated plastic machine supplier for Nigeria, we understood the need for specific adjustments. The most critical was customizing the machine’s voltage to 415V/50Hz to match the local grid in Kano, a service we provided free of charge. This level of customization and attention to detail demonstrated our commitment to the success of HDPE recycling in Nigeria.

The result was a solution that precisely matched the client’s needs. If you are looking to start or upgrade your plastic recycling facility, whether you need a single machine or a complete recycling line, our engineers are ready to analyze your material and recommend the optimal configuration.
