Customizing a 630-Ton Metal Chips Briquette Press Line for Scrap Metal Recycling in Indonesia
When processing massive amounts of scrap metal, having the right equipment makes all the difference between a profitable operation and endless maintenance headaches. Recently, Shuliy Machinery partnered with a professional metal broker and their end-client in Indonesia to design and install a fully customized metal recycling line.
At the heart of this project was our heavy-duty metal chips briquette press, tailored to meet exceptionally high standards and solve specific operational pain points. Here is how we helped them maximize their recycling efficiency.



The Client’s Challenges
The end-client in Indonesia is a highly experienced scrap metal recycler currently operating three Japanese-made recycling machines.
Their extensive experience meant they had strict requirements for machine durability and stability. They presented us with three main challenges:
- Complex Materials: Their raw materials weren’t just standard metal swarf. They had a mix of normal metal chips and long metal scrap, which needed to be processed at a capacity of 1 ton per hour. The briquette press requires input materials to be under 5cm.
- A Demand for Premium Quality: Because they were accustomed to the high performance of Japanese machinery, standard entry-level machines would not meet their expectations for continuous, heavy-duty operation.
- Operational Hazards: In their daily operations, workers sometimes accidentally dropped manual tools (like wrenches) into the feeding system, causing severe jam hazards to the main press machine.
The Shuliy Solution: More Than Just a Machine
Instead of simply selling a standard off-the-shelf product, our engineering team dug deep into scrap metal management solutions to provide a highly customized, high-end production line.
1. Upgrading to a Premium Heavy-Duty Standard
To match the quality of their existing Japanese machines, we confidently upgraded the proposal to our premium Jiangyin-standard equipment series.
The core of the solution was our 630-ton metal briquetting press (Model YG560/380), capable of delivering 6,300kN of force to produce ultra-dense blocks (4500–5000 kg/m³ for steel) at a capacity of over 2 tons per hour.
2. Solving Long Metal Scrap with a Pre-Shredding System
How to process long metal scrap? We integrated an SL-400 scrap metal shredder into the line. While initially considering a larger 800-type shredder, we downgraded it to the highly efficient 400-type after analyzing their actual 1t/h capacity need. This precise recommendation saved the client investment costs while perfectly reducing long metal strips to the required 20mm size.
3. Factory Visit & Three Key Customizations
During the client’s visit to our facility in China, we further customized the metal chips briquette press to fit their exact site conditions:
- Elevator on the Screw Feeder: To bridge the height difference in their factory layout, we added a lifting elevator to the feeding system.
- Safety Protective Screen: To totally eliminate the risk of tools dropping into the machine, we designed and installed a customized screening mesh at the feeding inlet.
- Cooling Tower Integration: To combat the tropical Indonesian climate and the intense heat generated by the 630-ton hydraulic pressure, we configured a metal briquetting machine with a cooling system (water cooling tower) to safeguard the 4000L hydraulic oil tank.
